Review for Jay Brown's new video "Mixed Effect"

"Mixed Effect" is a East Coast video made by Jay Brown and filmed by Kevin leeroy Madden and Mike Laybold. This video was mostly filmed in New England with some stuff in other states but mostly in Boston and Maine. Jay has made a few videos in the past but this one is by far the best. His last one "Whatever Feels Right" really showed his talents as a film maker but "Mixed Effect" really showed a vast improvement and how much he's grown as a film maker. This video is a perfect example of what northeast coast skating is all about. Wish his use of 8mm footage as well as his music selection the video has a great feel to it. the video starts off with Mike Gustafson having the first part and couldn't of had anyone better to have start the video out. Mike's had a lot of different video parts in the past but you can clearly tell how much work he put into this. He works a full time job and being 28 years old he still finds the time to go out and skate as much a possible and gets it done. With smooth style that looks almost effortless his part starts the video off right. That nollie half cab heelflip over the guardrail to the bank was insane. Frankie Nash and Howie Hohen share a part next. Frankie has ledge combos on lock. This kid can dance on ledges so effortlessly. B/s 270 lipslide 270 out? Yeah enough said about that one. Howie had a part in Jay's last video 'Whatever Feels Right" and doesn't disappoint in this one either. He throw down on the Copley fountain pad again fakie pop shov nose manny fakie 360 flip out. Well done. Jay's part was next and it's great to see how much he's improved over the years. I've known Jay for a long time and it makes me proud to see the progression of his skating over the years. His ability of doing manual tricks is insane. His part is defiantly one not to sleep on that's for sure. Pete Moulton had the next part and I've never met him before but I was very impressed with his part. He's literally one of those skaters that you can't til if he's regular or goofy cause he's doing such hard tricks both ways. He's sick bottom line. Switch manny switch 360 front shov out real smooth and I mean real smooth! He also 180's over a flat and down a 3 stair to switch manny off the off the rest of the curb after the 3 stair that might of been one of my favorite tricks in the whole videos it was bolts. Alex Thomas and Jose Melendez share the next part and they don't disappoint by any means. Alex skates with lots of speed and charges everything insight. Jose has a smooth style and looks almost effortless on a board his front board to back lip on the same ledge was so good. They're 2 friends sections as well in the video from local skaters in the Boston area which were just as impressive. Next was Tim Nichols part and in my opinion was one of the parts I was looking most forward too. Nichols is a mad man and has a style like no other. He charges everything and takes an extra 4 pushes when they're not needed so everything he does looks so sick. He has one of those styles that you could be entertained by him skating down the street. The song Jay used for him couldn't of been any better it matched it perfect for him. Cory Iles has the next park and he's been ripping it in Maine since he moved here a few years ago and it's so sick to finally get him in the streets and start skating with everyone. He only had a few months to film his part and he did a great job for the amount of time he's had. He's got a great style and he's only gonna get better in time. Be on the lookout for this kid. His switch heel and switch hardflip down that long 8 was so insane. Finally Tony Le has the last part and he totally deserves it. Tony skates with such aggression and power. Everything he does looks so good and so effortless. He's got that monster Asian pop behind him cause the man's got some ups. Like Nichols he takes those extra 4 or 5 pushes that most people don't so everything has that extra flair to it and his last trick is so massive but I can't give that one away. Overall the video is one of the best examples of East Coast skating I've seen since either of the Traffic videos. With just the style of editing and music alone the video has such a unique vibe on it's own. You can get the video at The Bath skate park and most local skateshops in the North East if your local shop is slacking and doesn't have it go to www.Emulsionapparel.com to get it there. You can contact us on the Maine Skateboarding page if your interested in getting one and we'll find a way to get one to you. It's only $10 and honestly it's the best $10 bucks I've spent in a long ass time. Congrats Jay on making such an amazing video and great job to all the skaters that are in it you all did an amazing job as well. This is the plans for the Portland skate park

So this is the initial plan for the Portland skate park that will be off of exit 5. In my opinion it looks amazing. Way better than any of the other plans. It has things for everyone that likes street skating ledges, manuel pads, stairs, handrails etc. It's cool that it has replicas of Pier 7 and the china banks from San Fransisco. It even has a bowl and some larger quarter pipes with hips on them there as well. I think it's a great idea to get a world renown park builder to make it then who they had originally to do it. The last thing we need to to waste a 1/4 of a million dollars on a park that's exactly the same as all the other parks in the area.
